Valtellina
The Valtellina is a unique area for grape growing, characterized by a combination of natural factors that favor the production of high quality wines. Located in the heart of the Alps, this valley stretches from east to west, offering an ideal morphological configuration for vineyards.
Where is it located?
Valtellina is an Alpine valley that stretches in the northern part of the Lombardy region. It runs along the course of the Adda River and is distinguished by its particular conformation, oriented from east to west, which creates unique climatic conditions that are ideal for viticulture. The valley is renowned for its wines, particularly those belonging to the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG), produced in five subzones of excellence: Maroggia, Sassella, Grumello, Inferno, and Valgella. The Cooperative's vineyards are located in the Sassella DOCG subzone, known for producing elegant and structured wines, an authentic expression of Valtellina Nebbiolo.
Sassella DOCG
The Sassella DOCG subzone is one of Valtellina's most renowned areas for the production of Nebbiolo-based wines, locally known as Chiavennasca. Located west of Sondrio, Sassella is developed on steep, south-facing terraces between 300 and 600 meters above sea level. The soil, rich in rocks and minerals, combined with the sun exposure and cool alpine climate, favors the production of elegant wines with a complex bouquet and considerable aging potential. Sassella wines are distinguished by a balanced structure, aromas of red fruit, spices and an elegant mineral note, representing the excellence of the Valtellina territory.
